First Guesthouse

Built in 1942, the Guesthouse was the designated hall for receiving the Japanese royal families by Penghu Government, and renamed the First Guesthouse after Taiwan’s retrocession, later renamed the President Guesthouse in 1956.  In 1958, during the 823 Artillery Battle, it became the command center for President Chiang, KaiShek.  The building is a combination of western and Chinese architectural styles.  After Taiwan’s retrocession, the underground defense fort was built to the south of the building, and equipped with toxin-proof ventilation, showers, and sleeping facilities.
