Chungyang
Streets in Makung City is the most ancient street in
Penghu. However, dating back to the Japanese Occupation
period, the occidental styles of architecture gradually
replaced the original circumstances of buildings.
Therefore, the public and the government are planning to
maintain the ancient houses and shops that still remain
in Penghu. |

Erkan preserves an ancient house, more than 100
years, which belongs to a Chen family. The house
decorating with stone engraving, clay sculpture and
painting displays its grace and elegance. Chungse
Ancient Residence Area, the only relic of a group
residence in Penghu, inspires romantic thoughts of
ancient times.
Chinshih's Residence, the 3rd-class national
historic site, was built in 1844 by the Tsai family
after Tsai Ting-lan, the only Chinshih (holder of the
highest academic degree in imperial China) of Penghu,
was granted his official degree. |
